Destination overview
About the United States.
A Country the Size of a Continent
The United States stretches from the Atlantic surf of Maine to the volcanic shores of Hawaii, from the Arctic tundra of Alaska to the sun-scorched flats of the Sonoran Desert. No other country on earth packs quite this range of geography, climate, and character into a single passport stamp. You can ski powder in Colorado one week, float through the cypress swamps of Louisiana the next, and still have barely scratched the surface.

Cities That Refuse to Be Boring
New York reinvents itself every decade and somehow always stays ahead of everyone else. New Orleans plays jazz at midnight and means it. Chicago has architecture that will stop you dead on a winter sidewalk. Los Angeles sprawls gloriously in every direction, serving the world's best tacos from trucks parked next to billion-dollar studios. American cities are not interchangeable — each one has a voice entirely its own.
Landscapes That Earn the Postcard
The national parks system is one of the great gifts the United States has given the world. The Grand Canyon is every bit as staggering in person as the photographs promise. Yellowstone's geysers and bison herds feel prehistoric. The redwoods of Northern California make you feel appropriately small. Zion, Acadia, the Everglades, Denali — the list of genuinely unmissable landscapes goes on long enough to fill several lifetimes of travel.
Food, Music, and the Culture That Travels the World
American culture exports everywhere, but experiencing it at the source is something else entirely. Nashville's honky-tonks, Memphis's blues clubs, and the jazz bars of the French Quarter are living traditions, not museum pieces. The food tells the same story of confluence and invention — barbecue that varies meaningfully by state, a Creole and Cajun canon that is its own culinary universe, and a restaurant scene in every major city that competes seriously with anywhere on earth.
