About Vorarlberg.
Between Lake and Alps
Vorarlberg is Austria's westernmost corner, a compact land wedged between Lake Constance and the high Alps, sharing borders with Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Germany. Despite its small size it packs in shimmering lakeshores, deep green valleys and some of the country's finest skiing. A strong local identity, an Alemannic dialect and a passion for modern design give the region a character all its own.

Bregenz and the Lake Stage
The capital, Bregenz, sits right on the shore of Lake Constance beneath the Pfänder mountain. Each summer its vast floating stage hosts the Bregenz Festival, where operas unfold against the open water and sky. Beyond the festival, a sleek lakeside promenade, the striking Vorarlberg Museum and a cable car to panoramic ridgetop views round out the city.
Valleys, Villages and Cheese
Inland, the Bregenzerwald unfolds in a patchwork of meadows and timber villages famed for their craftsmanship and award winning alpine cheese. A signposted cheese road links dairies and farmhouse inns where you can taste the local Bergkäse. The whole region is celebrated for its bold contemporary wood architecture, which sits surprisingly at ease beside centuries old barns.
Slopes and Summits
To the south and east rise the great mountains, home to legendary snow. The Arlberg resorts of Lech and Zürs draw skiers from around the globe, while the Montafon, Brandnertal and Silvretta valleys offer slopes, lakes and high alpine trails. Tucked away beyond the main ranges, the Kleinwalsertal can only be reached by road through neighbouring Germany.
