About Uganda.
The Pearl of Africa
Winston Churchill called Uganda the Pearl of Africa, and the name still fits perfectly. Draped across the equator at altitude, the country enjoys a lush, temperate climate that sustains extraordinary biodiversity. Dense montane forests give way to open savannah, papyrus wetlands spill across valley floors, and a chain of Great Rift Valley lakes shimmers along the western border. This is a country that rewards slow, curious travel at every turn.

Gorillas and Wilderness
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park protects nearly half the world's remaining mountain gorillas, and the experience of tracking a family group through ancient forest is genuinely unlike anything else on earth. Elsewhere, Queen Elizabeth National Park delivers tree-climbing lions and vast hippo channels, Murchison Falls sends the entire White Nile surging through a seven-metre cleft in the rock, and Kidepo Valley rewards those who make the journey north with staggering isolation and enormous herds of buffalo and elephant.
The Source of the Nile
Jinja sits at the point where Lake Victoria pours north to begin its journey to the Mediterranean, and the town has grown into East Africa's adventure capital on the strength of white-water rafting, kayaking and bungee jumping over the river. The surrounding region is rich with Buganda Kingdom heritage, and a visit to the royal tombs at Kasubi or the Kabaka's Palace adds genuine cultural depth to any itinerary built around the water.
Kampala and Everyday Life
Kampala tumbles across seven hills above Lake Victoria and pulses with markets, live music, rooftop bars and some of the most vibrant street food in East Africa. The city is a useful base for excursions but genuinely worth exploring on its own terms, with the colourful Owino market, the Bahaii Temple and the neighbourhood of Kabalagala all offering very different windows into Ugandan life. Warmth and curiosity towards visitors runs deep throughout the country.
