About Oman.
Between desert and sea
Oman sits on the southeastern corner of the Arabian Peninsula, a long ribbon of coastline pinned between the Hajar mountains and the Arabian Sea. The country rewards slow travel. Drive inland and the sand shifts from pale gold to rust red as the Wahiba dunes roll toward the empty quarter. Head to the coast and you will find fishing dhows, turtle beaches at Ras al Jinz, and the improbable blue of Bimmah Sinkhole.

Forts, souqs, and frankincense
Muscat is a low rise capital where whitewashed buildings hug the shoreline and the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque glows at dusk. Wander Mutrah Souq after sunset for silver khanjars and halwa, then drive south to Nizwa for its round fort and Friday goat market. Further still, Salalah holds the old frankincense trails, where the resin that once travelled to Rome is still tapped from gnarled desert trees.
Wadis, mountains, and Musandam
Freshwater pools hide in slot canyons across the country. Wadi Shab asks for a swim to reach its waterfall cave; Wadi Bani Khalid serves lunch beside date palms. Jebel Akhdar climbs to terraced rose farms and cool mountain air, while Jebel Shams peers into a canyon often called Arabia's grand. Far to the north, the Musandam peninsula fractures into fjords where dolphins ride the bow of a traditional dhow.
When to come and how it feels
Cooler months from October to April are the sweet spot for most of Oman, with warm days and comfortable nights for hiking and camping under vast desert skies. Dhofar flips the script each summer: from June to September the khareef monsoon turns the hills around Salalah emerald green, drawing visitors from across the Gulf. Omani hospitality threads through all of it, from cardamom coffee poured in a Bedouin tent to the quiet welcome of a village shopkeeper.
