About the Marshall Islands.
Atolls at the Edge of the World
Scattered across nearly two million square kilometres of the central Pacific, the Marshall Islands are a nation built entirely on coral. Twenty-nine atolls and five single islands form two parallel chains, the Ratak (Sunrise) and Ralik (Sunset), each rising barely a metre or two above the waterline. The result is some of the most dramatic ocean-meets-sky scenery on the planet, where the lagoons glow in impossible shades of turquoise and the horizon stretches unbroken in every direction.

Diving, Wrecks and Wild Lagoons
Bikini and Kwajalein atolls hold some of the most storied dive sites in the Pacific, where World War II battleships, aircraft carriers and submarines lie in shallow, clear water. The Kwajalein lagoon — the largest in the world — is a playground for divers and sailors alike, while the outer islands offer pristine reefs, abundant manta rays and the kind of solitude that is increasingly rare on earth.
A Culture Shaped by the Sea
Marshallese culture is deeply matrilineal, rooted in a clan system tied to land ownership and an intimate relationship with the ocean. Traditional stick charts — rebbelib and mattang — were used by ancient navigators to read wave patterns and currents between islands, a form of seafaring knowledge unique to Micronesia. Today that connection to the sea remains central to daily life, from artisan handicrafts woven from pandanus leaf to the outrigger canoes still built and sailed across the atolls.
Planning Your Visit
Majuro is the main hub for arrivals. Accommodation ranges from guesthouses on the capital atoll to small eco-lodges on the outer islands. The dry season from December to April brings calmer conditions and clearer water. Wāna has the travel guides, itineraries and insider knowledge to help you plan a journey to one of the Pacific's most extraordinary and least-visited destinations.
