About Malawi.
The Warm Heart of Africa
Malawi earns its reputation through the easy warmth of its people and the startling blue of Lake Malawi stretching across more than 500 kilometres of the country's eastern edge. The lake is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and home to more freshwater fish species than almost any other body of water on Earth, making it as fascinating below the surface as it is beautiful from the shore.

Wildlife and Wild Places
Liwonde National Park sits at the heart of one of southern Africa's most exciting rewilding stories, with elephants, hippos, crocodiles and lions all sharing territory on the banks of the Shire River. Majete Wildlife Reserve has undergone a remarkable transformation from a depleted park into a Big Five destination, while Nyika Plateau offers rolling montane grasslands unlike anything else in the region.
Mountains, Tea and the Road Less Taken
The Mulanje Massif looms over the southern lowlands, its granite peaks and misty forests drawing hikers from across the continent. Nearby, the Thyolo and Mulanje highlands are blanketed in tea estates that produce some of the finest tea in Africa. Between the mountains and the lake, Malawi offers a slow travel experience that rewards those who take the time to wander.
Culture, History and Everyday Life
Malawian culture is shaped by the Chewa, Tumbuka, Yao, Lomwe and many other peoples, each with distinct traditions, music and festivals. The Gule Wamkulu masked dance of the Chewa people is recognised by UNESCO as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Markets bustle with colour, fishing villages line the lakeshore, and the colonial town of Zomba offers a quieter, more contemplative side of the country's history.
