About Kosovo.
Europe's Youngest Country
Kosovo declared independence in 2008 and has been building its story ever since. The capital Pristina buzzes with pavement cafes, street art and a young population determined to put their country on the map. The Bill Clinton Boulevard, a giant mural of the former US president, tells you everything you need to know about the mood here: forward-looking, outward-facing and entirely unafraid to be itself.

Monasteries, Bazaars and Ottoman Lanes
Prizren is the cultural jewel of Kosovo, a city of minarets and church towers rising above cobblestoned lanes that wind down to the Bistrica river. The old Ottoman bazaar remains gloriously intact, and the hilltop fortress rewards the climb with panoramic views across terracotta rooftops. Gjakova offers similar charms on a quieter scale, with a long covered bazaar that has traded continuously for centuries.
Mountain Wilderness at Your Doorstep
The Accursed Mountains in the west are among the most spectacular ranges in the Balkans, and Kosovo's share delivers serious hiking, remote villages and glacial lakes without the crowds you might encounter elsewhere. The Rugova Canyon near Peja cuts a dramatic gorge through limestone cliffs, while the Sharr Mountains in the south offer skiing in winter and wildflower meadows come spring.
Warm Hospitality and Rakija
Kosovan hospitality is not a cliche, it is a deeply held value. Guests are treated with generosity that can border on overwhelming, and the table will always have more food on it than you ordered. Local cuisine draws on Ottoman and Balkan traditions: flaky burek, slow-roasted lamb, thick bean soups and yoghurt that arrives as a side dish whether you asked for it or not. Wash it all down with homemade rakija and you have the foundations of a very good evening.
