What sets Fiji apart is the warmth. For something truly memorable, Beqa Island is celebrated for its firewalking tradition, and a lovo feast cooked slowly in an earth oven is the kind of meal you carry home with you.

More than just the beach

If you feel like exploring, Fiji rewards it. Taveuni, known as the Garden Island, is lush and waterfall filled, with rainforest walks and natural swimming spots. Offshore, the snorkelling and diving can be spectacular, from coral gardens teeming with reef fish to bigger encounters depending on the season. As dusk rolls in, flying foxes glide overhead and, in the right places, you might spot the rare Fiji crested iguana.

A taste of the islands

Fijian food is deeply communal, rooted in fresh produce, seafood, and earthy root vegetables like taro and cassava. Kokoda, the national dish of fish cured in coconut cream and citrus, is a perfect introduction. Markets in Suva and Nadi are worth an early morning wander, piled high with tropical fruit, root crops, and the kind of produce that makes it clear just how fertile these islands really are.
