About Gambela Region.
Ethiopia's Lowland Wilderness
Far from the cool highlands, Gambela unfolds as a vast expanse of hot savanna, wetlands and winding rivers along the border with South Sudan. It is one of the least developed and most remote corners of the country, and that remoteness is precisely its appeal. Here the landscape feels wild, open and gloriously untamed.

A Great Migration
Gambela National Park protects one of Africa's most astonishing wildlife spectacles, the seasonal march of more than a million white eared kob and other antelope across the plains. Elephants, buffalo and rare shoebill storks share this watery frontier. For patient wildlife lovers, few African parks promise such raw, unpolished drama.
People of the Rivers
The region is the homeland of Nilotic peoples such as the Nuer and Anuak, whose cultures are woven around cattle, rivers and season. Their villages, ceremonies and striking traditions feel worlds apart from highland Ethiopia. Travellers who come with humility and an open mind will find a proud and welcoming people.
The Baro River
The lazy, powerful Baro flows through the heart of the region, once a busy trade route linking Ethiopia to the Nile and the wider world. Today its banks draw fishermen, herders and clouds of colourful birds. Watching the sun sink over the water is a quiet reminder of how far you have travelled from the beaten path.
