About Bulgaria.
Where Empires Left Their Mark
Bulgaria sits at one of Europe's great crossroads, layered with the fingerprints of Thracians, Romans, Byzantines and Ottomans. Ancient fortresses crown rocky ridges above valley towns, Roman amphitheatres shelter inside modern Plovdiv, and UNESCO-listed monasteries cling to forested mountainsides. Sofia anchors the west with a cathedral, a mosque and Roman ruins all within a short walk of each other, a city that wears its centuries lightly and rewards the curious traveller at every corner.

Sun, Sand and the Black Sea
Bulgaria's Black Sea coast stretches for nearly 400 kilometres, delivering long sandy beaches, warm summer water and a reliable calendar of sunshine. Resorts like Sunny Beach buzz with energy through the warmer months, while Sozopol and Nesebar balance their beach appeal with cobblestoned old towns full of wooden houses and Byzantine churches. Whether you're after a lively seafront scene or a quieter cove, the coast serves both with equal charm.
Mountains Made for Every Season
The Balkan, Rhodope, Rila and Pirin ranges carve Bulgaria into a landscape of dramatic peaks and forested valleys that shift character with each season. Bansko draws skiers and snowboarders in winter, while summer transforms the same slopes into hiking and mountain-biking terrain beneath clear blue skies. The Seven Rila Lakes sit at altitude like a string of mirrors, and the Rila Monastery below them is among the finest examples of Bulgarian National Revival architecture anywhere in the country.
Food, Rose Oil and a Proud Culture
Bulgarian food is generous, seasonal and rooted in the land. Shopska salad, banitsa pastry and slow-cooked kavarma are everyday pleasures, while rakiya and locally produced wines sit comfortably at the table. The Rose Valley near Kazanlak produces much of the world's rose oil and perfumes the air each May during harvest, drawing visitors to a festival that blends folklore, craft and colour. From folk music and traditional crafts to a contemporary arts scene in Sofia, Bulgarian culture runs deep and welcomes newcomers warmly.
